Befriend the chef

Life is so much easier when you feel comfortable in the kitchen. I can't tell you how rare it is to find a kitchen full of friendly, warm hearted people to shrug off the stresses of the day and have a laugh with!

What would Anjelica do?

I have my 'down days', when I feel like I should have pulled the covers over my head and slept till next week. When this happens I usually walk to work listening to 'I've got rhythm' by Ella Fitzgerald and try to channel my favorite movie star - If I were Anjelica Huston what would I do? Works like a treat - before you know it I'm ringing up registers, sweet talking difficult customers and serving cappuccinos front and center!

To feel more acquainted with the food you're serving, research the origins. This way, you have your own story to tell when engaging with the customers. Did you know that croissants are shaped like crescent moons to celebrate the defeat of a Muslim invasion at the decisive Battle of Tours by the Franks in 732? Well, that may or may not be true...but it's a good story.
